All-Star Roster of Communications Experts Fills Out Washington, DC Firm’s Growing Advocacy PR Practice
Washington, DC—New Heights Communications, the Washington, DC-based public relations firm founded by Democratic strategist and communications expert Christy Setzer in 2010, has added a digital team and other top operatives to its growing practice.
“These can feel like dark times in Washington, but we’re phenomenally lucky that at New Heights Communications, we get to use our energies and talents to fight back,” said Setzer. “Whether we’re shining a light on the horrors of the family separation crisis, advocating for secure elections, or challenging the legality of the Administration’s Muslim ban, our team works creatively and tirelessly to help our clients ‘build a wall’ against the worst efforts of the Trump presidency and advocate policies we believe brighten our future. Now more than ever, our unbeatable group of communications rockstars can help our clients take on some of the toughest battles.”
New team members boast backgrounds from political campaigns to international development to book and music publicity.
Josh Cohen, has joined New Heights as a Principal to expand strategic communications, develop a dynamic digital practice, and help guide the firm’s overall direction. Cohen was most recently a partner at The Pastorum Group, which he co-founded in 2015. A native Ohioan and alum of the DSCC, Senator Durbin’s office, OFA, the DNC, SEIU, Cohen has worked in a variety of digital and communications roles at the national, state, and local level. Cohen joined New Heights in July.
Cohen will head up a team that includes Jimmy Donofrio, the former Digital Director at Americans United for Change and Creative Director at the Democratic National Committee. Donofrio joined New Heights in March 2018 to serve as Director of Digital Strategy. His creative talents went viral in a 2016 video he crafted about Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky—gaining more than 30,000 retweets, mentions in Yahoo! Sports, The Guardian, MTV.com, TechDirt, and deemed “the best Olympics tweet yet” by New York magazine.
Also in July, Jaime Horn, a communications and media relations expert with more than 20 years’ experience, was promoted to Principal. Horn has served as a Senior Advisor for New Heights for more than a year. She previously worked with Blue Engine Message & Media, a consulting firm, and has run communications for global development organizations and Air America Radio. She started her career as a publicist at Miramax Books. In addition to her communications consulting work, Horn founded and
directs the Andi Leadership Institute for Young Women (ALI), which trains young women peace builders from conflict-ridden regions.
New Heights has more than doubled in size in just the last year—adding Cohen, Donofrio, and two Senior Associates, Solace Duncan and Derek Haviland. Duncan, a former New Heights intern, joined the team in January from the Ethiopian Community Development Council, where she served as a public and community relations officer, and the press office of American University. In addition to his New Heights work, Haviland owns Full Circle Music Productions, a music promotion, booking and management agency. Previously, he ran communications and outreach for CAFCA, Connecticut’s federally funded statewide antipoverty network. He is based in Philadelphia, PA.
Filling out the team is Aurora Matthews, who joined New Heights in 2016 as Vice President, and Eissa Saeed, another former New Heights intern who now serves as Associate. Setzer started New Heights Communications in 2010 after more than a decade running communications on campaigns from the presidential to local level, as well as for national advocacy organizations including Planned Parenthood, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the AFL-CIO. She can frequently be seen as a Democratic strategist on Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNBC.
